[Tested] Gamut Cillos Stem

/

We jumped onto a Gamut Cillos stem a couple months back after searching for a fresh 50mm stem. Coming in at a reasonable 150 gram weight the stem caught our eye with its clean lines and svelte hardware. Here is our full review.

While at 150 grams there are other stems out there that trump it in weight, the Cillos makes up for that in its stout nature. It keeps a pretty low 43mm stack height which is nice for adjusting your ride height on the steerer tube. It’s a good size – the faceplate is fairly wide and although it has smooth lines, it’s overall shape is rather square. Its bar clamp width comes in at a pretty broad 57mm giving it plenty of support.

On the trail in terms of a stem review there isn’t much to report. Either a stem is flimsy and noodly, or it’s stiff. The Cillos is one of the stiffest stems we’ve tested to date. We didn’t have any issues with it slipping on our steerer tube in minor crashes so it ticks all the boxes in terms of having a good bite in the critical areas. One of our favorite features of this stem are the tapered bolts. They just look so damn good and had a nice bite with the allen keys used to tighten them. The matte anodized finish and laser etched graphics look as good as new after a few months of thrashing as well.

Overall, we’ve been super happy with this stem. We feel its definitely worth praising Gamut for backing the Cillos with a lifetime warranty. We think it’s the perfect stem for someone who values a bit of added security and piece of mind over saving a couple of grams. This is a beautiful piece of kit thats in it for the long haul.
