{"id":205321,"date":"2019-06-01T20:43:27","date_gmt":"2019-06-01T18:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/?p=205321\/"},"modified":"2019-06-01T20:43:27","modified_gmt":"2019-06-01T18:43:27","slug":"racing-vergier-qualifies-first-in-fort-william","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/en\/racing-vergier-qualifies-first-in-fort-william\/","title":{"rendered":"[Racing] Vergier Qualifies First in Fort William"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fort William welcomed athletes from the UCI DH World Cup circuit with the typical Scottish climate: rain, wind and cold temperatures.\u00a0Compared to yesterday&#8217;s practice, today the rain gave respite, but the track on Mount Ben Nevis remained\u00a0coated with mud and\u00a0predictably challenging.\u00a0The most effective at\u00a0navigating\u00a0the treacherous terrain and the never dull track was Loris Vergier.\u00a0In second place the overall winner of the 2018 season was Amaury Pierron, only 6 tenths of a behind his fellow countryman.\u00a0Third place went to\u00a0Troy Brosnan at over 4 and a half seconds from the best time of the day.\u00a0In fourth place was Reece Wilson while Danny Hart closed out in fifth position after a spectacular comeback from 23rd place at the first split.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_me_results_qr_y.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-205310\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_me_results_qr_y.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"968\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_me_results_qr_y.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_me_results_qr_y-750x454.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_me_results_qr_y-768x465.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s category is very special, obviously influenced by the track conditions.\u00a0Tracey Hannah repeated her first place in Maribor qualifying by closing with the\u00a0fastest time at Fort William, almost 4 and a half seconds ahead of Marine Cabirou.\u00a0Third place for Rachel Atherton who\u00a0finished her run over 10 seconds\u00a0back from Hannah&#8217;s time.\u00a0Tahn\u00e9e Seagrave, winner of the first round of the circuit in Maribor, remains\u00a0sidelined from the race and probably for the rest of the season due to a crash during practice which caused a devastating shoulder injury.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_we_results_qr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-205307\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_we_results_qr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"968\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_we_results_qr.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_we_results_qr-750x454.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_we_results_qr-768x465.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the Junior qualifying round there are some changes compared to the usual handful of names that normally occupy the top positions, not so much for the first place, which was won by the winner of the first round Thibaut Daprela. In second and third position were two athletes racing in their first year\u00a0of World\u00a0Cups, Australian Luke Smith-Meier and British Luke Mumford.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fwil_dhi_mj_results_qr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-205304\" destroying\u00a0the Junior women&#8217;s category by starting Fort William\u00a0by winning the\u00a0qualifying round and, as usual, with a competitive time also in the Elite Women category.\u00a0She put about\u00a016 seconds\u00a0into Mille Johnset, the young Norwegian of the Atherton team, followed by an even greater lead on the American Anna Newkirk.<\/p>\n<p><a
