In\u00a0a time where long travel bikes out at your local trails are far and few in between, we felt is was time to give the dual crown &#8216;Freeride&#8217; bike some time under the spotlight. We chose the Furious\u00a0after enjoying its playful ride quality after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/en\/tested-commencal-furious-essential\/\">reviewing<\/a> the bike last year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206142\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6345.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6345.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6345-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6345-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Paying homage to one of the first\u00a0brands to support the early\u00a0Freeride movement, and keen to\u00a0mount up a fork that was all black, we opted for the new<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marzocchi.com\/forks\/bomber-58\/black.aspx?idC=62422\"> Marzzochi<\/a> Bomber 58 fork. With a Fit Grip2 Damper, and similar chassis to the Fox 40, it was an obvious choice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206139\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6336.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6336.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6336-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6336-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Bomber CR in the back features simple\u00a0low-speed compression and rebound damping, it matches the fork, and we felt it would provide\u00a0everything we&#8217;d need for a park bike. We are playing around between a 400 and 450 lb spring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206135\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambrakes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1275\" height=\"765\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambrakes.jpg 1275w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambrakes-750x450.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambrakes-768x461.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1275px) 100vw, 1275px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopetech.com\/products\/brakes\/downhill\/tech-3-v4\/\">Hope Tech<\/a> 3 V4 downhill brakes feature lovely machining and anodized\u00a0anodizing, 4 pistons for lots of stopping power, and a heat dissipating floating rotor. They are definitely a dream choice for us. Not only run by our good friends Cam Zink and Ray Syron, but just a dang good grip, we decided on Sensus Lites.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206140\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6335.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6335.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6335-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6335-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In need of some more black, we reached out to Squamish B.C. based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneupcomponents.com\/collections\/chainguide\/products\/bashguide-v2-iscg05\">OneUp Components<\/a>, who were kind to get us set up with their new top chainguide w\/ bashguard. The system is has plenty of adjustment, accounting for chainring sizing, and chainline path. The guys also set us up with a 36t narrow wide chainring to keep things in place in the\u00a0rowdy terrain.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206134\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/dreamwheels.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/dreamwheels.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/dreamwheels-750x469.png 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/dreamwheels-768x480.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We found\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/spank-ind.com\/products\/spank-359-350-vibrocore%E2%84%A2-wheelset\">Spank<\/a> Vibrocore technology to be an asset on rough trails after we\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/en\/tested-spank-spike-350-vibrocore-wheels\/\">reviewed<\/a>\u00a0their Spike 350 wheel set last year. Spank sent us their newest DH tech: the Tuned 350\/359 wheelset. The new wheels feature their &#8216;foam filled&#8217; Vibrocore rims, and unique front and rear rim profiles\/widths reducing weight in the front, and providing durability in the rear. Included black tubeless valves, and\u00a0anodized valve caps were just the cherry on top.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206305\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6346.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6346.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6346-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6346-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spank-ind.com\/products\/spank-359-350-vibrocore%E2%84%A2-wheelset\">Spank<\/a>\u00a0Spike Vibrocore 30mm x 800mm handlebars, and an adjustable 25-30mm Spike stem round out the cockpit of the bike. We&#8217;ve yet to experience the Vibrocore technology in a handlebar, so we&#8217;re excited to try them out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206143\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6350.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6350-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6350-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/chrisking.com\/collections\/chris-king-headsets\/products\/headset-inset-2\">Chris King<\/a> top cap boasts the smooth spinning headset hiding below, and an obligatory Ride or Die decal keeps the fiery passion that is riding bikes burning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206144\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6358.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6358.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6358-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMC_6358-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If there&#8217;s a higher quality, more drool worthy headset for a dream bike, we&#8217;re not aware of it. With a ten year warranty and legendary made in house bearings, King was the obvious choice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206176\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambits.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1275\" height=\"765\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambits.jpg 1275w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambits-750x450.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.mtb-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/commencaldreambits-768x461.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1275px) 100vw, 1275px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The subtle details of the Furious frame added to our reasoning for choosing it.
