Sembra che anche le bmx "Bike Moto Cross"siano entrate a far parte degli sport olimpici..
le vedremo nel 2008..


CBC SPORTS ONLINE - The Winter Olympics has snowboarding. Now, the Summer Games has BMX.

Bike Moto Cross, commonly known as BMX, will be added to the Olympic program at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

One men's and one women's BMX race will replace two track cycling events, yet to be determined. The move is seen as a bid by the International Olympic Committee to tap into a younger audience, one that watches or participates in extreme sports.

"We believe that this introduction will definitely enhance the Olympic program," said IOC president Jacques Rogge.

BMX is a TV-friendly event. Four riders on small stunt bikes start together. They negotiate a dirt-track obstacle course filled with jumps, bumps and turns.

The fastest rider in each heat will advance in an elimination process. The heats are expected to take less than a minute each.

Rogge is an advocate of deleting sports from the Olympic program in what he calls the "gigantism" of the Games. Triathlon and taekwondo were added to the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

The two new BMX races won't increase the number of events or athletes in Beijing, according to Rogge.

The International Cycling Union is studying which two events in the current program are the least popular, added Rogge. BMX will replace them.

forse era meglio se mischiavano le carte e metteevano lo street invece che il classico dirt...che ultimamente è piu di moda con le mtb che con le bmx (vedi XGames della ESPN)

ma secondo me ci sarà solo BMX Race, e va bene così visto che da lì è nata la bmx, il resto è venuto dopo.
cmq ne sarei felicissimo....anche se sarebbe stato bello lo avessero fatto 10-15 anni fa quando gli italiani si giocavano i mondiali alla pari con olandesi, francesi e statunitensi....
ma va bene così

Con la speranza che lo spirito che anima la BMX - visto il parallelo che è stato fatto - sia lo stesso che anima lo snowb dove un campione olimpionico è stato messo fuori perchè positivo al doping...per marijuana!!! :shock: Praticamente si era fatto un perno prima di gareggiare, altro che EPO!
