What makes the jacket so unique is that it also has space for a bag of water and a few pockets, as well as protection for the back, shoulders and hydration pack. All naturally worn under the jersey as we see in the video. The purpose is to save weight, especially for racing. With the evolution, there is no reason to need a backpack.
