Over the “cold” winter months throughout parts of Northern and Southern California, we’ve been spending some time in the Acre Supply District Henley. The District is aimed squarely at a narrow part of the apparel sector where things are built to last product, and have attention to detail, yet they can be worn post-ride without looking garish. Let’s be honest : who wants to sit down for too long for coffee before a ride or post ride for a beer with some friends in a ridiculous looking kit?
Available in 2 colors(black & grey) and 4 sizes(S,M,L,XL), the well made piece features 3 aluminum buttons stitched on and reinforced at the chest. At $139 the price is a bit steep, but it is hand made in America. Its greatest asset is likely the material it’s made with : Merino Wool. Merino is known for managing heat and moisture even better than most synthetic materials. Let’s see how the District treated us on rides that were hot, cold, sweaty and everything else in between.
To start, the cut, sew and fit of the District henley was spot on. Our 6 foot tall 180 pound test rider settled into his size large perfectly. Right away we found that Acre backed their claims up. This quickly became a go to piece on the damp foggy days. Not to say it wasn’t good on the warmer days, but when we knew we were headed into light rain, or muggy, humid conditions this was always the obvious choice. We were truly floored by not just how resistant the District was to weighing down, but also by how quickly it would dry. Most jerseys we’ve used over the years would take a good 45 minutes to dry out post ride while still on the body. This took around 5-10 minutes before we no longer felt the added weight/moisture. Pretty impressive. You’d think there would be some sort of trade off or catch. Price aside, really there wasn’t. Quite often, wool can be synonymous with an itchy feel. Not the case here – while the District wasn’t quite as silky as some synthetic materials, it was by no means itchy.
So who is this for? Anyone really. As mentioned earlier, if you want a jersey that has a very classic, low key look and lacks a bunch of wild graphics its perfect. Add in the fact that it feels great on trail and dries quickly and you’ve got a winner. The fact that you don’t look like a Joey when you’re grabbing a beer in it post ride is just icing on the cake.
