Schwalbe Presents New Casings, Updates Nobby Nic & Reintroduces Big Betty

Schwalbe has completely rethought all their tire designs in the Evolution (EVO) versions. Now the new names of the five casings have been made clearer to understand, making it easier for the customer to find and decide on the right tire according to its intended usage. Also, the famous Nobby Nic model has been updated, and the classic Big Betty that came out in the 90s is back. All technical details have been improved to meet the needs of today’s bikes and the new technologies they offer.

New Nobby Nic

Compared to the previous model, a new profile design has been worked on, being more aggressive, in order to satisfy the riding style today with modern bicycles. Particular attention has been paid to the side knob. These are now much more stable, to offer a higher level of confidence at high speeds. In general, the new profile provides more response, both in accelerating and braking.

New Casings

As previously announced, the new names for the five available casings are now much clearer than before, making it easier to find the tire based on use and helping you make the right choice.

Super Downhill – Use: Downhill

The most robust and stable construction is now double layer. Six layers protect the tread even at very low air pressures. The side walls are reliably protected against cuts and punctures by a combination of four layers and a stable fabric layer. A special APEX layer protects against cuts and increases the lateral stiffness of the tire. Due to the foldable bea, they are easy to set up tubeless.

Super Gravity – Use: Enduro

The tread and strong side lugs are protected by a four-layer construction in combination with a fabric construction that runs from one bead to the other. As in the Super Downhill, a special APEX layer protects against cuts and increases the lateral stiffness of the tire. Also, thanks to the woven construction, the tire remains flexible for particularly smooth riding. Designed for Tubeless.

Super Trail – Use: All-Mountain / Trail

The construction is designed to combine moderate weight and reduced rolling resistance, with high cornering traction and puncture protection. We find two layers on the side wall and three below the tread. A special APEX layer gives additional protection to the entire tire. Designed for Tubeless.

Super Ground – Use: Trail / Down-Country

Its modern and sophisticated construction guarantees an optimal combination of protection, light weight and good rolling characteristics. A protective fabric insert, running from one bead to the other, and three layers under the entire tread offer a balance of safety and weight. Designed for Tubeless.

Super Race – Use: Cross-Country / Marathon

The patented folded construction is characterized by a mix of exceptionally light and flexible materials. The tread is protected by a lightweight insert and two layers. The side walls are protected against cuts and punctures by three layers. Designed for Tubeless.

Stay tuned for long term reviews of some of the new tires from Schwalbe in trail through enduro offerings.
