Nukeproof Presents the new Mega

YouTube video

Today Nukeproof is showing off the all new Mega, the fourth version of this model born in 2009 for competitions in the Mega Avalanche and subsequently developed specifically for Enduro, a discipline in which in recent years it has achieved important results, climbing numerous times on the highest step of the podium and four times winning the EWS overall circuit.

.

Nukeproof updated the Mega with what they themselves call “an evolution, not a revolution”. For this new model, the designers started from a revised position of the pivot points of the suspension and passed these references to the designers who took care of creating the final look, with only two fixed points: it must have the appearance of a Mega and must have plenty of space for the bottle cage.

The result is a streamlined and modern design frame, definitely one of the most elegant ever made by Nukeproof, with space to comfortably insert a 750ml bottle. New, more modern geometry that reflects the now customary mantra “longer, lower, steeper and slacker”, ie longer, lower, steeper seat angle and slacker head tube angle.

The suspension system remains a traditional four bar with Horst link like the previous model, but has been revised to obtain more efficient performance for the descents with greater initial sensitivity and more support in the central part of the stroke but with less progressivity in the second part of the stroke for allow greater tuning possibilities through the shock volume spacers.

The Mega frame is available both in carbon, with 700 and 800 unidirectional fibers, and in 6061 T6 aluminum alloy with triple butted hydroformed tubes, in both cases with cable routing inside the frame and, in the case of the carbon frame, they are fully sleeved. The seat tube of the frame is optimized to accommodate long travel seatposts that reach 200mm in size XXL for stock setups.

As with the previous model, the new Mega is also available in both 27.5″ and 29″ versions. The 27.5″ version offers 165mm travel at the rear wheel while the 29″ version has 160mm travel. Both versions are equipped with a fork with 170mm of travel.

The frame details is completed by the bike’s abundant rubber protectors, the ISCG mounts, the SRAM UDH universal dropout, the Enduro Max bearings and the attachment for the spares under the top tube.

Sizes

Nukeproof has also updated the size chart by adding an extra size in the same size range. The XXL is in fact comparable to the XL of the previous version so the current 5 sizes available to offer a greater choice with a smaller gap between each size. To optimize the riding position and pedaling performance, Nukeproof has chosen a saddle angle of half a degree more vertical on larger sizes in order to create a riding position that is proportionate between all sizes considering the height of a raised saddle used by tall riders.
